Why are some rooms much warmer than others?
Uneven temperatures usually come from distribution rather than the equipment. Long duct runs to distant rooms lose capacity to leakage and to hot attic air. A duct that has been crushed, kinked, or disconnected at the boot delivers little air. Return air paths matter too — a closed door with no return path starves a room. Then have the underlying cause diagnosed, because ice is always a symptom — either restricted airflow or low refrigerant charge — and it will return until that cause is fixed.
Why is there water around my indoor unit?
In a humid climate an air conditioner condenses a large volume of water, and all of it is supposed to leave through the condensate drain. Water on the floor means that path failed: a clogged drain line, a cracked or rusted drain pan, a disconnected drain fitting, or a frozen coil that thawed and overwhelmed the pan. Turn the system off to stop producing more water, then have it addressed promptly. Homes with a working float switch usually get a shutdown instead of a flood, which is inconvenient but far cheaper than replacing ceilings and flooring.
What does it mean when the outdoor unit hums but does not start?
That sound usually means the unit is receiving power and attempting to run, but a motor cannot start. The most common cause by far is a failed run capacitor, which provides the phase shift the fan and compressor motors need to begin rotating. A failed contactor, a seized fan motor, or a compressor with internal problems can produce similar behavior. My breaker keeps tripping when the AC runs. Is that dangerous?
It is a signal that should not be ignored or worked around. Does adding refrigerant fix a system that is low?

If certain rooms are consistently uncomfortable, balancing the system properly — adjusting dampers and correcting duct problems — accomplishes far more than closing vents.
How long should an air conditioner last in Florida?
